The National Blood Service Agency (NBSA) has appealed to Nigerians, especially residents of the Federal Capital Territory, to donate blood in support of victims of the tanker explosion on the Aya-Karu Expressway in Abuja.
In a statement released on Thursday, NBSA Director General Prof. Saleh Yuguda said the explosion resulted in multiple casualties, many of whom require urgent blood transfusions. He emphasized that while hospitals and emergency teams are working tirelessly to save lives, a sufficient blood supply is critical to their efforts.
The incident, which occurred on Wednesday at around 7 p.m., involved a Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) truck that lost control and collided with another truck along the Aya-Karu Expressway. According to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), six people were confirmed dead, 18 vehicles were burned, and the number of injured victims is still being assessed. The injured have been taken to various hospitals, including the National Hospital, State House Clinic, Karu General Hospital, and Customs Clinic in Karu for medical care.
The NBSA has called on all eligible donors to visit designated blood donation centers and hospitals across the FCT to contribute. “Your generosity could make the difference between life and death for those in critical condition,” the agency stated.
For more information or to locate nearby donation centers, the NBSA can be contacted at 39 Abidjan Street, Zone Wuse, or by calling 07088370905. Together, we can save lives.
