Bayelsa West Senator and National Leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Seriake Dickson, has explained that he rejected joining the All Progressives Congress (APC) because he opposed the emergence of a one-party state in Nigeria.
The former Bayelsa State governor made this known on Thursday in Abuja.
Dickson said the decline of his former party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), influenced his decision to pursue an alternative political platform.
He explained that rather than join an existing political party, he chose to establish the NDC to provide Nigerians with another option and strengthen multiparty democracy.
The senator stated that the party had developed into a formidable political organisation within a few months, emerging as a major opposition platform in the country.
He also appreciated Nigerians, NDC leaders, members, officials and supporters for their confidence, commitment and sacrifices toward building the party.
Dickson acknowledged the contributions of Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso to the development of the NDC.
He urged party members to put aside disagreements arising from the nomination process and focus on mobilising support for all the party’s candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.
