Nigerian and Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman has taken the Italian Serie A by storm, emerging as the league’s highest-rated player this season. With 29 matchdays completed, Lookman sits at the top of the WhoScored performance rankings with an outstanding rating of 7.37, surpassing some of the division’s biggest stars.
His remarkable displays have placed him ahead of Inter Milan’s in-form duo, Marcus Thuram and Lautaro Martínez, as well as top performers from Juventus, AC Milan, and AS Roma. Despite making just 23 appearances so far, Lookman’s consistency has been second to none. He has recorded 13 goals and five assists, while also leading the league with an impressive 2.1 key passes per game.
Following closely behind him is Thuram, who has matched Lookman’s goal tally of 13 while adding four assists, earning a 7.29 rating. Martínez and Atalanta’s Mateo Retegui share the third spot, both boasting a rating of 7.22, with Retegui currently leading the Serie A goal charts with 22 strikes.
Inter’s midfield maestro Hakan Çalhanoğlu rounds out the top five with a rating of 7.19. Other notable names in the top 10 include Como’s Nico Paz (7.18), Lazio’s Mattia Zaccagni (7.17), AS Roma’s Alexis Saelemaekers (7.11), AC Milan’s Rafael Leão (7.11), and Fiorentina’s Moise Kean (7.09).
Since making the switch from RB Leipzig to Atalanta in August 2022, Lookman has been a standout performer in Italy. In 85 Serie A appearances, he has found the net 37 times and provided 18 assists, establishing himself as one of the league’s most consistent attacking threats.
His time in Italy has not only been defined by individual brilliance but also by team success. While he was part of Atalanta’s Coppa Italia runner-up squad early in his tenure, his greatest achievement came last season when he played a crucial role in their historic UEFA Europa League victory—the club’s first-ever European trophy.
On the international stage, Lookman has also been a key figure for Nigeria, playing an instrumental role in their journey to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations final. His performances earned him the prestigious CAF African Player of the Year award, making him only the sixth Nigerian to receive the honor. Notably, he became the first footballer to claim the award after switching national allegiance from England to Nigeria.
