The Trade Union Congress (TUC) has thrown its weight behind a Lagos-based National Youth Service Corps member, Ushie Uguamaye, alias Raye, who faced threats after criticizing President Bola Tinubu’s administration. TUC President Festus Osifo emphasized that Raye’s outburst was a result of frustration, urging the government to be more tolerant of critics.
Osifo noted that Nigerians are frustrated, hungry, and tired, and the government should develop resilience to understand this sentiment. He advised critics to express their views within acceptable norms and with decorum. Raye had posted a viral video on TikTok, criticizing Tinubu’s leadership and the government’s handling of the economy.
The NYSC has yet to release an official statement on the matter. Meanwhile, the TUC has backed Raye, stating that the government should not personalize criticism but instead focus on addressing the grievances of Nigerians.
In related news, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has welcomed former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, who recently defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC). SDP leader Prince Adewole Adebayo expressed confidence that his party would defeat the APC in the 2027 elections, citing the SDP’s commitment to good governance and transparency.
