A pro-Lagos development group, Agenda for New Lagos (ANL), has raised concerns about a potential plot to invalidate Hon. Mudashiru Obasa’s impeachment as the Lagos State speaker. According to the group, a court judgment has already been written to achieve this goal, with the case set to be heard on Monday, March 10, 2025.

The group claims that Obasa’s impeachment was a result of a carefully orchestrated plan, which involved tricking Assembly members into accepting his resignation. However, instead of resigning, Obasa allegedly adjourned the Assembly indefinitely, awaiting the court’s judgment.

In the same vein, The group also alleges that Olalekan Biilamin Onafeko, the clerk preferred by Obasa, was fraudulently promoted through the back door in 2022. This promotion, termed “Special Advancement,” was allegedly approved by the Lagos Assembly Service Commission, rather than the governor, as required by law.

In addition, If the court judgment is delivered in favor of Obasa, it could have significant implications for the Lagos Assembly. The group claims that this would mean Obasa was never officially removed as speaker, and that Meranda, who took over as speaker, was never officially recognized.

The group is urging the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), civil society, and all lovers of Lagos and democracy to pay attention to the developments in the state. They believe that the plot to invalidate Obasa’s impeachment is part of a larger plan to abuse the judiciary and undermine democracy in Lagos.
