To mark International Women’s Day, the Edo State Office of the Special Adviser on Sustainable Development Goals, under the leadership of Sally Suleiman, has launched the “Plant, Nurture, Eat – Edo Girls’ Farm Project.”
In a statement released on Saturday, Suleiman explained that the initiative’s goal is to provide young girls with hands-on agricultural experience, teaching them valuable skills while fostering qualities such as patience, responsibility, and independence. Additionally, the project contributes to food security and promotes environmental sustainability.
Suleiman said, “In celebration of International Women’s Day, the Edo State Office of the Special Adviser on Sustainable Development Goals proudly presents the ‘Plant, Nurture, Eat – Edo Girls’ Farm Project.’ This project aligns with Governor Monday Okpehbolo’s SHINE Agenda—focusing on Security, Health, Infrastructure, Nutrition, and Education—and recognizes agriculture as a vital tool for economic growth.”
The initiative encourages young girls to get involved in farming, creating opportunities for youth empowerment and supporting several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including Zero Hunger (SDG 2), Quality Education (SDG 4), and Gender Equality (SDG 5).
Suleiman further highlighted that the project exemplifies the state’s commitment to sustainable agricultural practices while empowering future female leaders in agribusiness. Through this initiative, Edo State is working towards a more food-secure future, equipping young girls with the skills and knowledge necessary to succeed in the agricultural sector.
