The Northwest Stakeholders Forum of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) has accused former Kano State Governor, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, of attempting to take control of the party by allegedly purchasing nomination forms for all 69 elective positions under its platform ahead of upcoming elections.
The forum also threatened legal action, describing the development as a violation of internal party democracy and a threat to the integrity of the PRP.
Speaking at a press conference held at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) secretariat in Kano on Sunday, the chairman of the forum, Abdulkadir Musa, alleged that the nomination forms were purchased by an individual who is not a registered member of the party.
According to Musa, the move amounts to an effort to dominate the party structure and deny genuine members the opportunity to contest for elective offices.
“It has been confirmed that nomination forms for all 69 elective positions under the PRP platform were purchased by a single individual who is not even a member of our party,” he said.
He described the alleged action as “political robbery,” warning that it could create confusion and spark disputes within the party.
Musa said the affected positions include the governorship seat, National Assembly positions and State House of Assembly seats.
He stressed that several loyal party members had already expressed interest in contesting elections under the PRP and should not be deprived of their democratic rights.
“We appeal to Senator Kwankwaso to allow political parties to function independently and democratically. The PRP should be spared what we consider an attempt to interfere in its internal affairs,” he said.
The forum chairman warned that the party would not hesitate to seek legal redress if the alleged interference persists.
“Should this continue, legal action will be our only option in defending the integrity and independence of our party,” he added.
Musa further alleged that similar incidents had occurred in other political parties, warning that such actions could undermine democratic principles and weaken public confidence in the electoral process.
He added that the PRP would release further details and supporting documents on the matter as the controversy continues to generate reactions across Kano State.
