Rivers Angels have announced plans to formally lodge a complaint with the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) after Adamawa Queens’ head coach, Dadeino Heman, accused them of influencing match officials. The controversy arose following Rivers Angels’ dominant 6-0 victory in Port Harcourt.
Heman claimed that referees favored Rivers Angels during the game, despite acknowledging their superior squad. She alleged that officiating decisions disrupted her team’s attacking plays and suggested that the match commissioner instructed officials to facilitate more goals for the home side.
In response, Rivers Angels’ media officer, Faith Meremegbunam, dismissed the accusations, stating that the club would not ignore such serious allegations. She emphasized that the match was fairly contested and pointed out that no penalties were awarded to Rivers Angels, contradicting claims of referee bias.
The club is urging the NWFL to investigate the matter and take necessary action to address what they see as false accusations. Rivers Angels maintain that their victory was a result of skill and teamwork, not external influence. Their complaint aims to safeguard the club’s reputation and uphold the integrity of the league.
