APC Spokesman: El-Rufai’s Absence from NEC Meeting Was Voluntary

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has clarified that former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, voluntarily missed the party’s National Executive Council (NEC) meeting. According to Felix Morka, the National Publicity Secretary of the APC, El-Rufai had the right to attend the meeting as a NEC member but chose not to.

This development comes after El-Rufai criticized the APC for lacking internal democracy and failing to adhere to its constitution. He specifically mentioned that the party had not called for a NEC meeting, but later claimed he hadn’t received an invitation to the meeting.

Morka countered this claim, stating that notices were sent to all party leaders, including El-Rufai, and that many of them traveled from outside Abuja to attend the meeting. He implied that El-Rufai’s absence was not due to a lack of invitation, but rather a personal choice.

The NEC meeting was well-attended by top party leaders, including President Bola Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shetimma, Senate President Goodwill Akpabio, and Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas.

In related news, El-Rufai has been rumored to be considering leaving the APC, but his spokesman has denied these claims.The former governor has been critical of the party’s internal dynamics, but it appears he remains a member for now.
