Former WBO heavyweight champion Joseph Parker is aiming for a potential second showdown with Anthony Joshua, but first, he must take on Daniel Dubois in an IBF title fight set for Saturday in Riyadh. Parker, who surrendered his WBO title to Joshua in a unification bout back in 2018, believes that overcoming Dubois could put him in contention for major fights, including a chance to settle the score with the British powerhouse.
The New Zealander has made it clear that his ultimate goal is to reclaim world champion status, unify the belts, and avenge his previous defeats before calling it a career.
However, he acknowledges that even if he secures victory over Dubois, facing Joshua next isn’t guaranteed. Other potential fights, such as a showdown with Oleksandr Usyk for the undisputed heavyweight title or a possible rematch clause with Dubois, could delay his plans.
Parker has stated that while a rematch with Dubois is not officially in place, it remains a possibility depending on the outcome of their fight. His primary focus is on securing a win before considering his next move, whether it be Usyk, Joshua, or another top contender.
At 32, Parker is confident in his ability to take on Dubois, emphasizing that his team has analyzed the Briton’s fighting approach and is well-prepared for the challenge.
He admitted that to successfully counter Dubois’ relentless offensive style, he must deliver a stronger performance than he did in his recent bouts against Zhilei Zhang and Deontay Wilder. Parker recognizes that Dubois applies significant pressure and throws dangerous combinations, making him a formidable opponent.
To combat Dubois’ aggressive tactics, Parker and his team have developed a strategic game plan to anticipate his attacks and counter effectively.
Their highly anticipated bout will be featured on the ‘Last Crescendo’ fight card in Saudi Arabia, which will also showcase an exciting light-heavyweight unification rematch between Artur Beterbiev and Dmitry Bivol.
