The Ogun State police have reported the recovery of the body of 76-year-old Sikiru Olatunji, who had been missing for several days. This was announced by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, in a statement on Wednesday.
Odutola explained that the body was discovered following a thorough search conducted by local security personnel and the police. She noted that Olatunji’s body was found without any visible injuries, raising questions about the circumstances surrounding his death.
His remains were located approximately one and a half kilometers from Wasinmi Abule Maria, near Balogun Village in the Yewa North Local Government Area of Ogun State. According to police reports, he was found lying on his back with a cutlass beside him, and there were no apparent signs of violence on his body, which leaves the cause of death uncertain.
The discovery came after an extensive bush-clearing operation and a coordinated search involving officers from the Imasayi Division, supported by Amotekun operatives, the Vigilante Group of Nigeria, local chiefs, and hunters.
The deceased’s family has requested his body for burial and is seeking public assistance to clarify the circumstances of his death. Following the recovery, they were granted custody of the body. Meanwhile, the police continue to investigate the situation and are asking anyone with pertinent information to come forward to help with the investigation.
Odutola concluded by urging the public to provide any relevant details to aid in ensuring a comprehensive inquiry.
