Former Manchester City left-back, Benjamin Mendy, has officially joined Swiss side FC Zurich with immediate effect.
As revealed in a post from Fabrizio Romano’s X handle on Wednesday, the 30-year-old defender has committed to a contract running until 2026. He arrives from French outfit Lorient, where he spent the past one and a half seasons.
After parting ways with Manchester City—where he featured in 75 matches between 2017 and 2022—Mendy made the switch to Lorient.
According to PUNCH Online, Mendy successfully pursued legal action against Manchester City, reclaiming a substantial portion of his withheld salary during his trial on rape allegations. Following his acquittal, he joined Lorient, marking his return to professional football nearly two years after his last competitive match. He went on to make 15 appearances for the club, which was later relegated to Ligue 2 at the end of the 2023-24 campaign.
Currently, FC Zurich sits in eighth place in the Swiss Super League, trailing league leaders Basel by seven points. The Swiss transfer window remains open until February 17.
