Leicester City have successfully prevented Wilfred Ndidi from securing a loan switch to AS Monaco, as the struggling Premier League side is unwilling to part ways with the Nigerian midfielder amid their battle to avoid relegation, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
As per L’Equipe, the French outfit submitted an £18 million loan proposal, including an additional £2 million in potential add-ons and a mandatory purchase clause for the 28-year-old. However, the Foxes turned down the offer, unwilling to sanction his departure.
Reports from Caught Offside indicate that Ruud van Nistelrooy’s squad views Ndidi as a key player in their fight for top-flight survival, making it difficult for them to release him mid-season.
The Super Eagles star recently resumed training after being sidelined with a thigh injury sustained in December 2024. Despite his fitness struggles, he has featured in 15 league matches this season, registering four assists.
Ndidi played a pivotal role in Leicester’s Championship-winning campaign last season, appearing in 32 games and contributing four goals and five assists to help the club secure an immediate return to the Premier League.
However, their comeback to England’s elite division has been far from smooth. The Foxes currently sit in 18th place, just one point adrift of safety, making the presence of experienced players like Ndidi essential for their survival bid.
His potential exit had been a topic of discussion, given Leicester’s ongoing financial concerns and the constraints imposed by Profit and Sustainability Rules, which have compelled them to consider offloading key squad members.
Providing an update on the midfielder’s condition last weekend, Van Nistelrooy stated, “Wilf is making good progress. He’s been partially involved in team training. This week, we aim to integrate him back into full team training, to have him ready next week.”
With the relegation battle intensifying, Leicester are relying on Ndidi’s leadership and adaptability to help steer them clear of the drop zone in the coming weeks.
