Bauchi Police Kill Two Bandits, Recover AK-49 Rifle

The Bauchi State Police Command has successfully neutralized two suspected bandits and recovered an AK-49 assault rifle following a coordinated tactical operation. The operation, which took place on Tuesday, was carried out by the Alkaleri Divisional Police Headquarters in partnership with Special Hunters and was aimed at improving security in the Gwana District, as well as the surrounding border regions connecting Bauchi to Taraba, Plateau, and Gombe states.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Ahmed Wakil, confirmed that the operation was launched based on credible intelligence gathered through community networks. The operational team conducted a surveillance mission in the Dajin Madan Forest, a known hideout for bandits. During the operation, the security team encountered the armed suspects, leading to an exchange of fire. Two of the bandits were neutralized in the engagement, while additional suspects were reported to have been injured and fled into the nearby bushes.

Wakil added that the operation concluded with the recovery of one AK-49 assault rifle and nine rounds of live ammunition, marking a significant achievement in the ongoing efforts to combat banditry and ensure public safety in the region.

“This proactive operation underscores the unwavering commitment of the Nigeria Police Force, in collaboration with community partners, to combat criminal activities and enhance security,” Wakil stated. “The successful operation is a clear indication of our resolve to rid the region of bandits and other criminal elements.”

The PPRO further assured the public that the Nigeria Police Force remains dedicated to working closely with local communities and other security agencies to safeguard lives and property. He also reiterated the importance of community cooperation, encouraging citizens to view security as a collective responsibility and to continue providing support to law enforcement agencies.
