Human rights activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has alleged that the Nigeria Police Force plans to detain him in retaliation for his criticism of the extension of Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun’s tenure.
Sowore raised the alarm on Monday, January 27, 2025, after he was summoned to the Force Intelligence Headquarters in Abuja. His appearance followed a police invitation linked to a viral video he shared, which exposed alleged extortion by police officers at a Lagos checkpoint.
Arriving at the intelligence office at 9:58 a.m., Sowore faced questioning regarding several allegations, including resisting and obstructing public officers, disobedience to lawful orders, and cyberstalking. The activist, however, dismissed the accusations as baseless, stating that they lacked evidence of any crime.
“The police relied on recycled claims and vague information during their questioning,” Sowore said in a Facebook post after his interrogation. “When I asked for specifics about the alleged crime scene in Lagos, they simply said it happened ‘along the airport road.’”
Sowore, who refused to provide a written statement, accused the police of using the invitation as a pretext to detain him and potentially transfer him to Lagos for what he described as a “kangaroo trial.”
The activist linked the police actions to his criticism of IGP Egbetokun’s tenure extension, which he has publicly described as unconstitutional. Despite the intimidation, Sowore maintained his resolve to continue his advocacy for justice and accountability in governance.
“I am not afraid of their threats,” he stated. “This fight is about ensuring that the rule of law is respected, and I am ready to face whatever comes my way.”
The police have yet to issue an official response to Sowore’s claims, but this incident highlights ongoing tensions between the outspoken activist and Nigerian authorities. Sowore, known for his #RevolutionNow campaign, has frequently called out government institutions over alleged corruption and abuses of power.

Trump’s Controversial Comments Lead To Open Laughter During
Speech
‘Irony Is Dead’: Trump’s Most Outrageous Claim Leads To Open Laughter During Speech
During a recent speech, Donald Trump delivered a statement so
outrageous it left the audience in fits of laughter.
The moment quickly went viral, sparking debates about the
implications of such a reaction in political discourse.
The incident occurred when Trump made a claim that defied all sense of proportion or credibility.
His words were met with stunned silence at first, but soon, laughter began to ripple
through the crowd. Observers noted that the humor wasn’t intentional, making the situation even more
awkward for the speaker.
Trump’s statement in question appeared to be a mix of exaggeration and misunderstanding of factual
information. While some in the audience were clearly
taken aback, others couldn’t help but laugh at the absurdity.
The reaction was so pronounced that it overshadowed the rest of his speech,
leaving many wondering if the moment was intentional or just a slip-up.
The aftermath of the speech saw a flood of reactions on social media and news outlets.
Critics argued that such a lapse in judgment could undermine
Trump’s credibility, while supporters dismissed the laughter as mere moments of levity in a serious political setting.
The incident has been cited by opponents as proof of Trump’s tendency to make sensational claims, often without basis.
As the dust settles, the laughter from that moment may serve as a marker for how
public figures navigate controversy and humor in public speaking.
While some might see it as a sign of humanity, others
view it as a misstep that highlights the need for more
cautious wording in political discourse.
