Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River State has dissolved the Governing Council of the state-owned University of Cross River (UNICROSS) and approved the appointment of a new Vice-Chancellor for the institution.
In a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Anthony Owan-Enoh, the dissolution was part of the governor’s efforts to reposition the university for better performance. The governor directed members of the dissolved council to hand over to the institution’s Registrar immediately.
The statement also announced Prof. Cyril Ndifon as the newly appointed Vice-Chancellor of UNICROSS. Ndifon, a distinguished academic and former Dean of the Faculty of Law at the University of Calabar, is expected to bring transformative leadership to the institution.
Governor Otu emphasized his administration’s commitment to improving the standard of education in the state, adding that the changes were necessary to align the university’s operations with global best practices.
The governor urged the university community to cooperate with the new leadership to foster development and academic excellence. The appointment takes effect immediately.
