The FCT Golf Association has outlined bold initiatives aimed at nurturing golf at the grassroots level while striving to place Nigeria on the Olympic stage.
During a media briefing, the association’s chairman, Akabong Enebong, expressed admiration for the accomplishments of Nigerian golfers and reaffirmed the association’s dedication to fostering the sport’s advancement.
“Our golfers have demonstrated remarkable talent, and as an association, we are committed to supporting them in achieving greater milestones, particularly at the upcoming National Sports Festival,” he stated.
Enebong highlighted the significance of grassroots development and announced collaborations with the FCT Education Board to establish golf academies and practice facilities in five schools, including those in Tundun Wada, Gwarinpa, and Garshi. “This project aims to cultivate the next generation of golfers while exposing students to the sport early on,” he noted.
In addition, the association unveiled a partnership with former Super Eagles forward Osaze Odemwingie, who transitioned to professional golf in 2019. Having graduated from the Professional Golfers Association’s academy in 2024, Odemwingie is now committed to elevating Nigeria’s presence in global golf.
“We are excited to team up with Osaze, who will be instrumental in mentoring young talents for the Olympics. His involvement underscores our confidence in the immense potential of Nigerian youth,” Enebong concluded.
