The Borno State Urban Planning and Development Board has announced a prohibition on street hawking and other unauthorized activities within Maiduguri metropolis.
In a statement released on Friday, the board’s General Manager, Mr. Limán Mustapha, stated that the ban aligns with the provisions of the Borno State Urban Planning and Development Law of 2002.
According to Mustapha, the restrictions cover street hawking, the activities of tricycle operators, and generator repair work in the vicinity of the Post Office and Monday Market areas of Maiduguri.
The board has also outlawed activities on pedestrian walkways, junctions, and roundabouts, the sale of engine oil on road reserves, the dumping of sand or construction materials, cement mixing on roads, and the drilling of boreholes near roadways.
Mustapha instructed individuals and businesses involved in these activities to vacate the affected areas immediately. He emphasized that failure to comply would result in arrests and prosecution, as the board is determined to create a clean, secure, and well-organized urban environment in Maiduguri and across the state.
He urged residents and business operators to adhere to the directive to avoid facing legal consequences.
