Oluremi Tinubu, wife of Nigeria’s President, has distributed N1.9 billion to elderly citizens and veterans through her Renewed Hope Initiative Elderly Support Scheme (RHIESS). The scheme, now in its second edition, aims to bring joy and comfort to senior citizens during the festive season.
The initiative, which was replicated in various states, including Lagos, Oyo, Ebonyi, and Delta, saw 250 beneficiaries receive N200,000 each. The grant has been increased from N100,000 to N200,000 per beneficiary, demonstrating Mrs. Tinubu’s commitment to improving the welfare of senior citizens.
In Lagos, the First Lady of Lagos State and State Coordinator of RHI, Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, presented the grants to the beneficiaries. She emphasized the importance of maintaining a total wellness for elderly Nigerians.
Mrs. Tinubu, who was represented by the First Lady of Lagos State, encouraged the beneficiaries to prioritize their health by eating nutritious food, staying hydrated, engaging in light physical activities, and spending quality time with loved ones.
In Oyo State, the First Lady, Mrs. Tamunominini Makinde, represented Mrs. Tinubu and presented the grants to the beneficiaries. She commended the initiative, urging the beneficiaries to use the money judiciously.
In Ebonyi State, the Wife of the Governor, Mrs. Uzoamaka Nwifuru, represented Mrs. Tinubu and presented the grants to the beneficiaries. She noted that the programme was designed to support the welfare of the elderly yearly, as well as veterans from DEPOWA.
The beneficiaries were also enrolled into the State Health Insurance programme under the Better Health for Rural Women, Children and Internally Displaced Persons Foundation (BERWO).
In Delta State, the Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, provided 50kg of rice for each elderly beneficiary, while his wife, Tobore, assisted with medical and other sundry items.
The beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the financial and medical support, describing it as a lifeline during challenging times.
This initiative underscores the Federal Government’s commitment to the well-being of the elderly and vulnerable groups across the country.
