In a bid to alleviate transportation costs for Nigerians during the Christmas and New Year celebrations, President Bola Tinubu has approved free nationwide train services. The Minister of Information, Mohammed Idris, made this announcement while briefing State House correspondents after the Federal Executive Council meeting chaired by the President on Monday.
According to Idris, “As we did last year, there will be free train service to all Nigerians from December 20 up until January 5, free train service nationwide. This is consistent with the President’s desire to cushion the effect of transportation, especially for the most vulnerable Nigerians” .
The free train services will commence on December 20 and run until January 5, 2025. This initiative aims to support citizens during key festive seasons. Additionally, the Federal Government has renamed the University of Abuja to Yakubu Gowon University .
The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, also disclosed that the cabinet deliberated extensively on the 2025 Appropriation Bill. He expressed confidence that the budget will boost private sector participation in the national economy.
This Federal Executive Council meeting was the last for the year, and the FEC will be on recess from December 18 until January 6, 2025 .
