Guinness World Records has announced the passing of John Alfred Tinniswood, the world’s oldest man, who died at the age of 112 on Monday, November 25, 2024, at the Hollies Care Home in Southport, England.
The news was confirmed in a statement released by Guinness World Records on Tuesday, expressing their sorrow at the loss. “Guinness World Records is saddened to learn that John Tinniswood, the world’s oldest man, has passed away at the age of 112,” the statement read.
Tinniswood’s family also shared their grief in a heartfelt message, stating, “We are saddened to inform you that John Alfred Tinniswood died peacefully on Monday (November 25) at his care home in Southport. His last day was surrounded by music and love.” The family expressed deep appreciation for the care he received over the years, thanking the staff at the Hollies Care Home, as well as the NHS carers, GPs, and other medical professionals who supported him.
Born on August 26, 1912, John was the son of Ada and John Bernard Tinniswood. He was married to his late wife, Blodwen, and together they had a daughter, Susan. John was a lifelong fan of Liverpool FC, and his love for the team was one of the many aspects of his personality that endeared him to those around him.
John gained worldwide recognition in April 2024 when he was officially named the world’s oldest man by Guinness World Records, following the death of Juan Vicente Pérez Mora at the age of 114. Tinniswood is survived by his daughter Susan, four grandchildren, Annouchka, Marisa, Toby, and Rupert, as well as three great-grandchildren, Tabitha, Callum, and Nieve.
His remarkable life has left a legacy of warmth and appreciation, with his family remembering him fondly as a man who always expressed gratitude and love to those who cared for him.
