The Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Taskforce dislodged traders and confiscated illegally displayed goods at the Ikotun BRT bus station during an enforcement operation on Thursday.
Tokunbo Wahab, the Commissioner for the Ministry of Environment and Water Resources, disclosed this in a statement on Friday, highlighting the government’s commitment to restoring order at public facilities.
According to Wahab, street vendors had transformed the bus station and nearby public roads into an unauthorized commercial hub, disrupting traffic and degrading the environment.
“The Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Taskforce monitored compliance and carried out enforcement at the Ikotun BRT bus station, which had been illegally taken over by street vendors for commercial purposes,” Wahab stated. “All items and wares displayed at the unauthorized location were seized, and the bus station and its surroundings were sanitized.”
The operation led to the arrest of nine individuals, who are set to face charges in court for violating environmental regulations.
The ministry reiterated its dedication to maintaining cleanliness and order across the state, warning against the misuse of public infrastructure for personal gain. Residents are encouraged to utilize designated markets for their trading activities to avoid similar enforcement actions.
