Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, has unveiled a bold initiative to transform the state into a digital economy hub through strategic partnerships with tech giants such as Data Science Nigeria and google.org.
Speaking at a stakeholders’ engagement on the draft National Digital Economy and e-Governance Bill in Kaduna on Thursday, Sani, represented by the Commissioner for Business, Innovation, and Technology, Mrs. Patience Fakai, announced the launch of the “Arewa Ladies4Tech” program. The initiative aims to empower over 5,000 women across the state’s 23 local government areas with Information and Communication Technology (ICT) skills.
Sani emphasized that the program has already achieved notable success, with participants securing jobs both locally and globally, including remote work opportunities. “Our administration has partnered with Data Science Nigeria and google.org under the Arewa Ladies4Tech programme to empower over 5,000 women with ICT skills,” Sani said.
In addition to the Arewa Ladies4Tech initiative, the governor introduced the AI4All program, a groundbreaking project designed to bring Artificial Intelligence (AI) education to Hausa speakers across Nigeria and beyond. “AI4All provides short, accessible lessons on AI in Hausa, downloadable from the NITDA website and shareable via phone. This is the first initiative of its kind in Africa,” Sani added.
The state has also joined forces with Greysoft Technologies to launch the AgricTech Hackathon, a competition aimed at encouraging young innovators to develop tech solutions for the agricultural sector. Through these initiatives, Governor Sani aims to position Kaduna at the forefront of Africa’s digital economy.
