The Kwara State Government has officially set the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) registration fee for the 2024/2025 academic year for senior secondary students in public schools at N30,250. The breakdown of the fee includes N27,000 for WAEC charges and N3,250 for e-registration and administrative costs, as confirmed by the Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Hajia Sa’adatu Modibbo-Kawu.
The Commissioner announced the fee structure during a meeting with senior secondary school principals on Wednesday at the commencement of the WAEC registration exercise at Saint Anthony’s Secondary School in Ilorin. She cautioned principals against charging additional fees beyond the approved amount, warning that any act of extortion would lead to serious consequences.
“We will not tolerate any extra charges beyond what has been approved by the Ministry. Any principal found overcharging students will be held accountable,” stated Modibbo-Kawu.
In her address, the Commissioner encouraged principals to continue playing a pivotal role in fostering quality education in the state, emphasizing the importance of their collaboration with the State Ministry of Education. She also commended Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s administration for its commitment to the welfare of teachers and educational development.
Chairman of the Kwara State Teaching Service Commission, Mallam Bello Tauheed Abubakar, expressed appreciation to Governor AbdulRazaq for advancing the education sector and improving teachers’ welfare. Mrs. Olanrewaju Bake, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education, also praised the Governor’s consistent efforts to rejuvenate the sector, urging teachers to stay committed to their professional duties.
The Director of the Ministry’s Curriculum and Assessment Department, Mrs. Adewuyi Victoria, provided a detailed breakdown of the WAEC registration fees: N27,000 for WAEC charges, N1,250 for e-registration, and N2,000 for administrative costs, totaling N30,250.
Mohammad Baba, President of the Kwara State Wing of the All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools, also lauded the Governor for enhancing teacher morale and infrastructure through school renovations and timely salary payments. He pledged that principals and teachers across the state would remain diligent in their roles to sustain these positive strides.
The Ministry’s directive marks an important step toward ensuring transparency and affordability in the WAEC registration process, reinforcing the state’s commitment to accessible quality education for all.
