President Bola Tinubu and the Federal Executive Council have decided to eliminate the Niger Delta Ministry and the Ministry of Sports Development.
In a tweet shared by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to the President, the announcement was made following a meeting of the FEC on Tuesday in Abuja.
The statement read, “President Tinubu and the Federal Executive Council have abolished the Niger Delta Ministry and the Ministry of Sports Development.”
A new Ministry of Regional Development will now oversee all regional development commissions, including the Niger Delta Development Commission, North West Development Commission, South West Development Commission, and North East Development Commission.
Furthermore, the Ministry of Sports Development’s duties will now be managed by the National Sports Commission, which will be responsible for overseeing all sports-related activities across the nation.
“The National Sports Commission will assume the responsibilities of the Ministry of Sports,” Onanuga confirmed.
In addition, the FEC approved the combination of the Ministry of Tourism and the Ministry of Culture and Creative Economy into one unified body.
