The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has confirmed the discovery of the lifeless body of a pregnant woman, identified as Mrs. Chinwendu Amadi, near the runway at Owerri airport.

In a statement signed by FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Mrs. Obiageli Orah, and shared with The PUNCH on Monday, it was emphasized that the woman did not die within the airport premises. However, her body was found close to the runway, a critical part of the airport.

Orah clarified that “FAAN wants to make it clear that this tragic incident did not occur inside the Owerri Airport.”

She further explained that on October 18, aviation security officers were informed by a group of youths from Awaogwu Logara, a nearby village, who were searching the bushes around the airport for a missing community member.

During their search, the naked body of Mrs. Chinwendu Amadi was discovered near the Runway 17 area, which borders the Umueze community. All security personnel at the airport, including the Airport Commandant and the local DPO, were immediately notified by the airport’s chief security officer.

A police investigation team from the Umuneke Division, Ngor Okpala Local Government Area, led by Inspector Vincent N., found multiple stab wounds on the woman’s abdomen. However, they noted the absence of blood or signs of a struggle at the site, indicating that she may not have been killed there.

The police have since moved the body for further investigation. Orah also urged the public to cooperate with security agencies to identify those responsible for this crime.

“FAAN calls on anyone with relevant information regarding this horrific crime to contact the appropriate security agencies immediately,” she added. “The culprits of this heinous act must be brought to justice,” Orah concluded.
