Honda, a globally renowned Japanese conglomerate specializing in the manufacture of automobiles, motorcycles, and various machinery, has introduced a new motorcycle model called the ACE 150. Designed specifically for rugged terrains and rural usage, particularly beneficial for farmers, the ACE 150 was unveiled at Honda’s facility on Idiroko Road in Ota, Ogun State. The launch event, held on Monday, welcomed  wholesalers and the public to experience the brand’s latest addition.

Olabade Badejo, Honda’s Senior Sales Manager, referred to the ACE 150 as a “motorcycle with purpose,” clarifying that it was crafted not for commercial purposes but rather for demanding rural conditions. Badejo explained, “Our primary market for the ACE 150 isn’t commercial motorcyclists, as the cost may be prohibitive for them. We already have models designed for that segment, such as the 100cc and 110cc bikes. This ACE 150 is specially developed for tasks in tough environments, ideal for dispatch riders and for farmers who need a reliable way to transport produce from remote farms to markets and towns.”

Badejo emphasized that, aside from the research and development efforts, no components were locally sourced for this new model. He attributed the reliance on foreign parts to a lack of genuine government support for local production within Nigeria’s motorcycle industry.

“The only Nigerian input in this model has been in its design and development phases,” Badejo stated. “In terms of actual manufacturing materials, nothing originates from Nigeria. This is because, despite government discussions around promoting local content, there has been little tangible action, particularly in the motorcycle sector. If Honda were to shift toward local sourcing, production costs would significantly increase. We would need broader economic support before considering local manufacturing, but so far, this backing has not materialized. Honda cannot be the only manufacturer investing in local production while others rely on BBB imports.”

Company Managing Director Tetsuya Kawai added that the ACE 150 was tailored to address the unique demands of the Nigerian market, focusing on durability, reliability, and high performance. He described the launch as a clear demonstration of Honda’s commitment to offering quality products that adapt to the changing needs of their clientele.

“At Honda, we remain dedicated to designing and delivering solutions that enhance convenience, boost efficiency, and most importantly, prioritize safety for our customers,” Kawai remarked.
