The Nasarawa State Independent Electoral Commission has finalized arrangements to hold local government elections in all 13 local government areas of the state on Saturday, November 2, 2024.
This information was shared by NASIEC Chairman Ayuba Wandai-Usman during a press conference in Lafia on Wednesday. The elections will include both chairperson and councilor roles.
The PUNCH notes that the previous local government elections in Nasarawa were conducted in October 2021, with the officials elected then nearing the end of their three-year term.
In his remarks to the press, Wandai-Usman emphasized the commission’s dedication to working with the media to strengthen the democratic process in both Nasarawa State and Nigeria overall.
“The chairperson and councilor elections are scheduled for Saturday, November 2, 2024. Nomination papers must be submitted at the commission’s headquarters, located at Democracy House, Shendam Road, Lafia,” he stated.
The NASIEC chairman further revealed that the election timeline has been established, with party primaries and dispute resolutions set to start on Friday, October 11, 2024.
Campaigning by political parties for the chairperson and councilor elections is expected to begin on Friday, October 18, 2024, while the final list of nominated candidates will be published on Tuesday, October 29, 2024.
