The Development Bank of Nigeria Plc (DBN) has unveiled plans to hold the fifth edition of its Annual Lecture Series on September 25 at Transcorp Hotel, Abuja.
In a statement released on Monday, DBN revealed that this year’s event will focus on tackling the issues faced by micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Nigeria, with the theme: “Empowering Nigerian MSMEs in a Complex Global Environment.”
The statement emphasized DBN’s commitment to the growth of MSMEs and noted that the lecture will feature Nneka Onyeali-Ikpe, Managing Director and CEO of Fidelity Bank Plc, as the keynote speaker.
The event will also host a panel discussion with distinguished industry experts who will provide valuable insights into the business landscape. Among the panelists are Abba Aliyu, Managing Director/CEO of the Rural Electrification Agency, and Ajuma Ataguba, Managing Director of Founder Institute and Venture Partner at White Hibiscus Capital, alongside others.
DBN’s Managing Director and CEO, Tony Okpanachi, highlighted the crucial role MSMEs play in Nigeria’s economy. However, he stressed that they continue to face significant challenges on both local and global fronts.
Okpanachi further explained that the lecture aims to create a platform where business leaders and stakeholders can come together to address these challenges and find solutions for the future of MSMEs.
“One of the biggest hurdles for MSMEs is securing affordable financing. Additionally, disruptions in global supply chains have adversely affected their operations and profitability,” Okpanachi remarked.
He also pointed out the Nigerian government’s efforts to boost the MSME sector through various initiatives aimed at stimulating growth. Okpanachi concluded by stating that the DBN Annual Lecture Series is part of the bank’s strategy to align with these government efforts and
