Dame Diana Johnson, the UK’s Minister of State for Policing, Fire, and Crime Prevention, experienced a theft at a policing conference, the BBC reported on Thursday. While she was speaking about rising issues such as antisocial behavior, theft, and shoplifting at the Police Superintendents’ Association conference on Tuesday, her purse was stolen.
The Mirror UK reported that the incident occurred at the Chesford Grange Hotel in Kenilworth, Warwickshire, where the conference was taking place. The Home Office has confirmed the theft, and Warwickshire Police are currently investigating the case.
A 56-year-old man from Coventry has been detained on suspicion of burglary and has been released on bail in connection with the incident, according to Warwickshire Police.
A spokesperson stated, “We are investigating a report of a purse theft at a hotel on the B4115 in Kenilworth, which happened between 11:00 and 13:15 on Tuesday. The investigation is ongoing, and the suspect has been released on bail while inquiries continue.”
The Home Office has indicated that no security risks were associated with the theft.
