Emerging Nigerian cricket star Piety Lucky earned the Player of the Match accolade as Nigeria’s U-19 women’s cricket team triumphed over their Ghanaian rivals by 178 runs in the series opener. This match unfolded at the UNILAG cricket oval on Sunday, as reported by The PUNCH.

Lucky nearly reached a century, scoring 97 runs off 53 balls with 12 boundaries and two sixes.

Opting to bat first, Nigeria amassed an impressive total of 212 runs for the loss of six wickets in 20 overs.

Ghana struggled to chase the target, largely due to the exceptional bowling performances from Peculiar Agboya and Peace Usen, who each took three wickets. Their efforts restricted Ghana to a mere 34 runs, all out in 8.5 overs.

This series is being hosted by the Nigeria Cricket Federation as part of the team’s preparation for the ICC U-19 World Cup qualifiers in Rwanda later this month.

Joining Nigeria and Ghana in the competition are a selected Nigerian squad led by batter Sunday Salome and the Southwest female cricket team. In their first match of the series, the selected Nigerian team secured a victory over Team Southwest by 67 runs.

Today, the Nigerian U-19 team will face the selected Nigerian squad in their second game.
