The Federal Government has issued a travel alert to Nigerian citizens who plan on visiting the United Kingdom, warning them of the risk of violence following the recent killing of three young girls at a concert.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs advised citizens to be extra vigilant and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety.
The statement, signed by Ambassador Eche Abu-Obe, noted that the violence has escalated into “dangerous proportions,” with reported attacks on law enforcement agents and damage to infrastructure. The government warned citizens to avoid political processions , protests, rallies crowded areas, and large gatherings, and to remain vigilant and self aware at all times.
The warning comes after demonstrations by far right groups in the UK have turned violent, with a large crowd of anti-Muslim protesters clashing with police in a northern English town where three girls were killed.
The incident has sparked an anti-immigration narrative, with Muslim immigrants or persons of color being targeted.
