The Sokoto State National Youth Service Corps Coordinator Alhaji Usman Yakubu-Yaro, has said no corps member is serving in areas with insecurity issues.

The Coordinator said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Wednesday in Sokoto.https://punchng.com/no-corps-members-in-areas-with-insecurity-sokoto-coordinator/

He said even though the scheme ensured constant partnership with security agencies and community groups in safeguarding members, “we will not post NYSC members to the eastern part of the state where there are security challenges.

“Wherever we deem not secure, we will not send corps members and we will continue to maintain that.

“The security of corps members will be guaranteed. For any flashpoint where insecurity is pronounced, we don’t send members there.”

According to him, they are expecting 2,000 prospective corps members posted to Zamfara and Sokoto states from Wednesday for a joint orientation exercise under the 2024 Batch B Stream 1 in Sokoto.

He said various  measures were ensured before the deployment of the corps members including a pre-orientation camp workshop, contacts with security agencies and others for the success of the orientation.

Yakubu-Yaro told the prospective corps members to make good use of  the opportunities provided by the scheme’s skill acquisition and entrepreneurship development training programmes (SAED).

He urged them to take part  in camp and post-camp training to enable them to be independent after the service year, as white-collar jobs are not easy to get these days.

He expressed optimism that when the NYSC Trust Fund Bill is passed by the president, it would go a long way in ameliorating the plight of members interested in skill acquisition and entrepreneurship development.

The coordinator explained that the scheme likes its  cordial support from the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, and the Sokoto State Government for their unending support.

He asked the state government to do more in the rehabilitation and improvement of facilities in the orientation camp.
