Academic activities at Western Delta University, Oghara, in Delta State, were momentarily thrown into disarray on Thursday, 20th of June, following the invasion of suspected armed robbers into the university campus.

PUNCH Metro gathered that the hoodlums gained entry through an unfenced perimeter at the rear of the campus, intending to rob students.

Upon sensing danger, students quickly raised the alarm and sought safety nearby.

The timely intervention by the law enforcement agents reportedly prevented any casualties or serious disruption to the university’s operations. The invaders were said to have fled in different directions at sighting the security operatives.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for Delta State Command, SP Bright Edafe, spoke to Punch’s correspondent,  confirming the incident.

He said, “They (the suspected robbers) entered through the broken fence at the back of the school, but the police responded swiftly and they fled.”

Also commenting, a student leader in the University, Simeon Okpoko, stated that “the incident underscores ongoing security challenges facing educational institutions and highlights the importance of vigilant security measures to safeguard students and staff alike”.

To this effect, the management of the University is now putting up increased security measures to prevent this occurrence in the future and maintain the safety of the university community.
