Considering the hike in fuel prices and oftentimes the scarcity faced by transporters, a Nigerian-based company, Garu Multi-Purpose Ltd has collaborated with a Chinese company (name not mentioned) to make available electrical and solar automobiles in Nigeria.
These electric automobiles include cars, bumpers, bikes, Hilux, and tricycles.
Speaking to one of the company’s workers, Mr. Surajo Umar, he noted that electrical and solar automobiles were launched this week at their company located at Shafa filling station in Mabushi, Abuja.
Talking about the special features of the automobiles, he noted that some cars come with their solar panel on the roof of the car which enables it to be powered by the sun while others without such features have been provided with solar panels in the company.
Mr. Umar noted that the electrical tricycles, popularly known as Keke napep use a charger and have a cable that can be connected to a port of five batteries. It takes three hours to be fully charged and can last for six to seven hours to run around.
The electrical keke napep can carry a minimum of 6 passengers and a maximum of seven. It also has a reverse camera and operates without a gear. It also has a port for charging phones.
According to Mr. Umar, the electrical keke napep has not been fully introduced, however a few were bought for testing. He noted that once it is on sale, the purchase time will be announced although the price has not been confirmed yet.
The advent of these electrical and solar automobiles would no doubt improve the standard of living for both transporters and Nigerians, as it will reduce capital on the part of the transporters and in turn reduce the cost of transportation for citizens.
