Robin van Persie, the former forward for Arsenal and Manchester United, has landed his inaugural senior managerial role with Dutch club SC Heerenveen, as announced on Thursday via the club’s official website. The 40-year-old retired Dutch striker, renowned for his illustrious career spanning Feyenoord, Arsenal, Manchester United, and Fenerbahçe, stepped away from playing in 2019. Prior to his appointment, Van Persie had been serving as a specialist and youth coach at Feyenoord, where he co-headed the U-18 side.
Commonly known as RVP, the left-footed upstriker who left an indelible mark at the Emirates Stadium expressed his fervent passion for coaching and his dedication to the developmental aspects of the profession to his new club.
“The coaching profession is multifaceted and demanding, and I engage in it with immense passion and joy,” he stated. “I am eager to further my growth, and the role of head coach aligns perfectly with that objective. I am therefore grateful for the opportunity that SC Heerenveen presents to me.”
Van Persie emphasized his excitement for the challenge ahead, noting SC Heerenveen’s status as a prestigious club with a rich heritage and devoted fanbase.
“SC Heerenveen is a fantastic Premier League club with a storied tradition and loyal supporters. It’s an incredible opportunity to contribute to the club’s sporting aspirations and overall development as head coach,” he remarked.
Upon joining SC Heerenveen, Van Persie will reunite with an old colleague in general manager Ferry de Haan, with whom he shared the field during Feyenoord’s UEFA Cup triumph in 2002, as stated on the club’s website. The formal introduction of Van Persie as SC Heerenveen’s head coach is scheduled for Tuesday, May 21, 2024.
