The People’s Democratic Party in Akwa Ibom State has launched a fresh drive for membership registration and a review of existing members across the state’s 31 Local Government Areas. This initiative, slated to conclude on Friday, May 31, 2024, was announced by the party’s State Publicity Secretary, Borono Bassey, in a statement from Uyo, the state capital.
Aniekan Akpan, the party’s State Chairman, explained during the unveiling of the new registration campaign that the goal is to expand the party’s membership base to approximately 6.9 million active members. Bassey reiterated this aim in the statement, emphasizing the party’s eagerness to welcome new members and update the records of existing ones.
The statement highlighted the ongoing interest from Akwa Ibom residents in joining the PDP, underscoring the party’s popularity as the preferred political option in the state. Bassey noted that the registration and reassessment exercise aligns with directives from the National Headquarters and provides an opportunity to both attract new members and ensure accurate membership records.
Scheduled to run from Thursday, May 16, 2024, to Friday, May 31, 2024, this phase of membership registration and reassessment targets both newcomers and existing members. Governor Umo Eno issued a caution against any form of monetary solicitation by chairpersons as a prerequisite for registration or reassessment.
