Mr. Gboyega Soyannwo, who served as the Deputy Chief of Staff to Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has sadly passed away at the age of 55 following a short illness. The announcement was made by the state Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotosho, in a statement titled “Transition.”

In the statement, it was conveyed, “With deep sorrow, the Lagos State Government announces the passing of the Deputy Chief of Staff to Mr. Governor, Mr. Gboyega Soyannwo. Soyannwo died today after a brief illness. He was 55. Mr. Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on behalf of the Government and people of Lagos, sends his condolences to the Soyannwo family.” Omotosho also mentioned that Governor Sanwo-Olu relayed the news of Soyannwo’s passing to cabinet members during the State Executive Council meeting on Wednesday.

Governor Sanwo-Olu expressed his grief, stating, “I have lost a brother and a servant of the people,” as he informed the cabinet members of the sad news. Following a moment of silence to honor the departed, the meeting was adjourned.

Gboyega Soyannwo was known for his dedication to public service and had been an integral part of the Lagos State Government’s leadership team. He had a wealth of experience in governance and administration, having served in various capacities prior to his appointment as Deputy Chief of Staff. Soyannwo’s commitment to serving the people of Lagos State will be remembered and cherished by many.

Gboyega Soyannwo is survived by his wife and two children.
