Oba Sikiru Adetona, the paramount monarch of Ijebuland and an Awujale, was awarded the second highest national honor, the Grand Commander of the Order of Nigeria, by President Bola Tinubu on Friday in recognition of his immense and priceless contributions to the development of the country.

Tinubu presented the honor at the 90th birthday celebration of the supreme monarch, which took place at the Oba Sikiru Adetona School of Governance, Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State.

The President, represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, said that the Oba Sikiru Adetona School of Governance, which the royal father had left for the university, will now be managed by the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies, Kuru, Jos.

According to the President, Awujale is revered nationwide for his fortitude and genuine purpose in the face of challenges that may jeopardize the nation’s progress, making him an amazing royal parent and national hero of Nigerian democracy.

Born on May 10th, 1934, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona is the Awujale of the Ijebu Kingdom which is a traditional state in Nigeria. Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona was enthroned on 2nd April 1960, making him one of the longest monarchs to reign in Nigeria. He is also a member of the House of Anikinaiya.
