The authorities of Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology (BOUESTI), Ikere Ekiti, have expelled two female students for bullying a colleague. The decision came after a viral video on social media showed the students assaulting another student.
The university’s Public Relations Officer, Temitope Akinbisoye, condemned the incident, stating that it was inconsistent with the institution’s values and standards. The Students’ Disciplinary Committee found the students guilty of misconduct and breach of their matriculation oath, leading to their expulsion.
The police have also been directed to investigate the incident. The Commissioner for Police in Ekiti State, Adeniran Akinwale, ordered the Ikere Area Commander to liaise with the university management and ensure the perpetrator faces legal consequences.
The university reiterated its zero-tolerance policy for indiscipline and encouraged anyone who witnesses or experiences harassment, abuse, or violence to report it immediately to the appropriate authorities.
The expelled students, Miss Opemiposi Precious Bolaji and Miss Osaro, were found guilty of misconduct and breach of their matriculation oath. Two other students, Mistura Adejuwon and Precious Olanrewaju, were warned for recording and posting the video on social media. Olawale Ajewole, who tried to intervene, was exonerated.
The university remains committed to fostering a safe and inclusive environment for all members of the university community.
