Governor (Prof.) Babagana Zulum has flagged off the construction of the 113-kilometer Maiduguri Ring Road project, aimed at addressing city congestion, housing deficits, and boosting economic growth.
The project is part of the governor’s urban renewal drive, which will connect the east, west, and southern parts of the city.
The first phase of the project will cover 16.5 kilometers, from Maiduguri-K16.5 Road to Maiduguri-Monguno Road via Maid-Gubio Road. Zulum explained that the project is necessary due to the influx of internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Maiduguri, which has put pressure on the city’s resources.
“We are taking deliberate steps to decongest the city,” Zulum said. “We shall not hesitate to expand the scope of work to cover the entire 113 kilometers of the ring road, Insha Allah.”
The project is expected to solve city congestion problems, address housing deficits, create jobs, and boost economic growth in Borno State. The governor’s urban renewal drive is geared to transforming Maiduguri into a modern city, with improved infrastructure and amenities.
