The All Progressives Congress has taken its re-election campaign to Katsina, where Governor Dikko Radda has assured President Bola Tinubu of political backing ahead of the 2027 presidential contest.
Radda gave the assurance on Monday during a meeting with party representatives led by Abdulaziz Yari, a former Zamfara governor appointed Director-General of the APC Presidential Campaign Council.
The campaign team’s itinerary covered the Katsina and Daura emirates, with visits to royal authorities forming part of its outreach to influential figures in the state.
Addressing reporters after the engagement, Radda disclosed that the visitors had appealed to traditional leaders to support Tinubu’s return to office, while explaining the President’s plans for the country.
The governor expressed satisfaction with the reception the delegation received, maintaining that the discussions had yielded encouraging signals for the ruling party.
He also said the royal institutions approached during the exercise had indicated their allegiance to Tinubu, whom they associate with Katsina through his political connections.
Radda linked the relationship to Tinubu’s association with former Nigerian leaders Muhammadu Buhari and Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, both of whom came from the state. He recalled Tinubu’s political support for Buhari and his relationship with Yar’Adua, who died in office in 2010.
Buhari governed Nigeria from 2015 until 2023, making Katsina an important political stronghold for the APC in the North-West.
Yari, however, declined to discuss the purpose of his visit when approached for comments.
The Katsina engagement comes as political parties and their leaders intensify consultations ahead of the 2027 polls, seeking alliances with influential figures and community institutions capable of shaping voter support.
