Tinuade Sanda Given Marching Orders

Tinuade Sanda, the former managing director, chief executive officer of Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC), has been in the news in recent times, albeit for controversial reasons.

Sanda’s appointment came in March 2022 as managing director of Eko Disco, making her the third woman to function in that capacity in the industry, having had Funke Osibodu of Benin Disco (2013) and Folake Soetan of Ikeja Electricity (2020).

Her claims to have been widely read became the subject of internal investigation. The embattled chief executive would be recalled on March 25 after Dere Otubu, chairman of the board of directors at Disco, confirmed this based on a directive from NERC- the Nigerian Electricity Distribution Commission.

A statement from the same parent company of Eko Disco, West Power and Gas (WPG), revealed Sand’s fate.
“We hereby advise you that your services are no longer required and accordingly your employment with WPG Ltd is hereby terminated effective April 17, 2024, in accordance with clause 10.2 of the Contract.
“WPG Ltd is obligated to pay you three months salary in lieu of notice and hereby advise you that the due amounts have been credited to your account.”

According to Sanda’s LinkedIn page, the controversial MD claimed to hold a Bachelor’s degree in applied science from Harvard Business School and an MBA in Strategic Planning from the University of Edinburgh, claiming also to have bagged a PhD in Benin Republic.

The foregoing claim was not verifiable upon investigation. The PhD-awarding institution was missing from the lists of Universities awarding such degrees. That development would lead to an infamous managerial deceit.
