Guess what? Blue Ivy Carter, the 12-year-old daughter of Beyoncé and Jay-Z, is joining the voice cast of the upcoming Lion King prequel called ‘Mufasa: The Lion King’!
In this film, Blue Ivy will be lending her voice to the character of Kiara, who is the daughter of King Simba and Queen Nala. And guess what? Her mom, Beyoncé, is reprising her role as Queen Nala from the 2019 photorealistic remake!
The prequel, directed by the talented Barry Jenkins (known for ‘Moonlight’), takes us on a journey into Mufasa’s origin story and his childhood alongside his brother Scar. Just like the 2019 movie, it will combine live-action filmmaking techniques with stunning photoreal computer-generated imagery.
Barry Jenkins had some amazing things to say about Blue Ivy’s professionalism. He praised both Blue Ivy and Beyoncé for their dedication to their roles and highlighted their natural mother-daughter dynamic on set. It seems like they didn’t have to pretend much, which is pretty cool!
The teaser trailer for the film premiered on the popular US breakfast show, Good Morning America. It gave us a glimpse of Mufasa’s transformative journey, despite his humble beginnings.
And get this: Aaron Pierre and Kelvin Harrison Jr. will be voicing the younger versions of Mufasa and Scar, respectively, in the prequel. Donald Glover is returning as Simba, and the cast also includes talented actors like Mads Mikkelsen, Thandiwe Newton, Seth Rogan, and Billy Eichner. Plus, the amazing Lin-Manuel Miranda is contributing original songs to the soundtrack!
While this is Blue Ivy’s first film role, she has previously wowed audiences with her dance skills on her mom’s live tour. Of course, her involvement in the film has sparked discussions about nepotism in the entertainment industry.
‘Mufasa: The Lion King’ is set to roar into UK theaters in December of this year. I can’t wait to see it, and I’m sure it’s going to be an incredible experience for all Lion King fans!
