The Yobe State Police Command has arrested a 19-year-old kidnapper, identified as Mohammed Abdullahi, who abducted and killed an 11-year-old boy in Gujba local government area of Yobe state.
The suspect demanded a ransom of ₦600,000 from the victim’s parents who happen to be his neighbor but later killed the boy with a substance drug when they couldn’t meet his demand.
Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Garba, paraded the suspect and 17 others at the Police Command headquarters in Damaturu, expressing concern over the resurgence of criminal activities in the state.
The suspects were arrested for various crimes, including kidnapping, armed robbery, rape, and transformer vandalism.
Mohammed Abdullahi, from Buniyadi, abducted his neighbor’s 11-year-old son and later demanded a ransom. When the parents couldn’t meet his demand, he administered drugs to the victim, causing his death.
He then buried the corpse in his house while his parents were away.
Another suspect, Sani Musa, 22, stabbed his victim, Sheba Simon, with a knife and snatched her cell phone. He admitted to committing the crime, stating his intention was not to kill her but to collect the phone.
The police also arrested transformer vandals in the Pompomari community and house burglars, recovering 3 AK47 rifles and live ammunition. CP Ahmed Garba urged the Yobe State government to provide empowerment and skills acquisition programs for the youth to keep them busy and prevent them from engaging in criminal activities.
The police are working to address the rising insecurity in the state, and the community is urged to cooperate with the authorities to prevent such incidents.
