In a surprising move, Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has secured a burial plot for himself at the Ikoyi Cemetery, despite being under 60 years old. This revelation came to light when environmental scientist and manager, Peace Ighodalo, stumbled upon an empty vault with the inscription “SANWO-OLU, EMPTY VAULT” during a recent visit to the cemetery for a funeral.

Peace Ighodalo shared photos of the vault on her ‘X’ handle known as @peace_igho, she tweeted “I was at Ikoyi cemetery today for a funeral and…”

sparking interest in the governor’s decision to plan for his final resting place. This move is reminiscent of former Governor Babatunde Fashola, who had also acquired a burial plot at the same cemetery for a rumored N150 million during his father’s burial many years ago.

An ‘X’ user known as @sosscopemedia said “Strange! Sanwo-Olu’s Empty Vault Spotted At Ikoyi Cemetery, Never knew people pay for burial space in advance, I was at Ikoyi cemetery today for a funeral and…Never knew people pay for burial space in advance”. Another ‘X’ user @riegnestt said ‘What if it’s a safe where they keep some illegal things’.

Another ‘X’ user @iamalexandervii also said “This is a common practice here in Australia, people make all necessary funeral arrangements while they are alive to ease the stress from their loved one because a funeral is pretty expensive here and more than one individual can be buried in one grave too to reduce cost”.

While it may seem unusual for someone of Sanwo-Olu’s age to be thinking about his burial arrangements, it highlights the importance of planning for the future and preparing for the inevitable. The governor’s decision may also serve as a reminder to others to consider their mortality and make necessary arrangements.

Other sources argue that the “SANWO-OLU, EMPTY VAULT” was built for the sole purpose of hiding stolen money, they might have said this before how the Federal Government discovered stolen money from top politicians over the past years.

Babajide Sanwo-Olu was born on June 25, 1965, in present-day Lagos state, he went to Havard Kennedy School of Government, London Business School, and the Lagos Business School. In addition, he is a member of the Nigerian Institute of Directors (IOD), Chartered Institute of Personnel Management (CIPM), and a Fellow of the Nigeria Institute of Training and Development (NITAD). Babajide Sanwo-Olu has numerous achievements and he is currently the governor of Lagos State, Nigeria.
