Lisha Dachor, a 19-year-old Nigerian nail artist from Plateau State, has completed her bid to establish a new Guinness World Record for the longest nail painting marathon by an individual. Dachor reportedly painted more than 4,000 fake nails during the “nail-a-thon” in under 72 hours.
In a post on her Facebook page, she said, “Breaking barriers and setting records! Honoured to have set a new milestone in the world of nail art with the longest marathon painting of artificial nails by an individual. Grateful for the journey and the incredible support.”
On April 25, Dachor declared that she will take on the challenge at Odilin’s Event Center, which is located behind the National Library in Jos, the capital of Plateau State, from April 28 to May 1. She added that attendees would be provided with complimentary bus transportation to and from the location.
Dachor said in a BBC interview that she wants to utilize her record attempt to draw attention to Plateau State. “People judge the Plateau by its cover. Apart from the ethnic issues we have, Plateau is a beautiful place. I got support from all ethnic groups while I embarked on this attempt,” she said.
It was also said that she took on the challenge to rewrite the history of young mothers like herself. “I want to give people hope, especially single mothers because many people don’t think we have anything to offer,” she told the BBC.
Now that it’s over, Dachor waits for the Guinness World Records to evaluate her attempt once she submits proof of her lengthy nail-painting session. The “nail-a-thon” ended, and many people, particularly online users, expressed their happiness and appreciation.
The governor of Plateau State, Caleb Muftwang, also posted a statement on X.com praising Dachor’s “record-breaking spirit.”
“I proudly join in celebrating Lisha Seleme Dachor’s record-breaking spirit of young talent from Plateau State on her Guinness World Record attempt for the longest nail art marathon. Your determination aligns with my administration’s policy objectives for the youth and inspires us all,” he wrote.
