The governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki has appointed a 38-year-old Engineer, known as Omobayo Godwin, as his new deputy and is set for inauguration today,8th April 2024.
This happened immediately after the impeachment of the former deputy governor, Philip Shaibu, by the state’s House of Assembly on Monday 8th April 2024. The impeachment followed the adoption of the report of the seven-man investigative panel set up by the state Chief Judge to probe allegations of misconduct against Philip Shaibu. The panel was headed by Justice S.A. Omonua (retd.), and it ended its sitting on Friday after Shaibu failed to appear before it.
According to the panel, Philip Shaibu was probed on allegations of perjury and leaking of government secrets.
Omobayo Godwin is a 38 year old Electrical Electronics Engineer, who has experience in the oil and gas sector. Omobayo Godwin has a B.Eng Degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering and an MSc in Public Administration from the University of Benin (UNIBEN), preparing for the role of a professional and an expert in public administration. He is a registered member of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) and the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN).
Before now, he served as a Senior Maintenance Engineer at Dresser Wayne West Africa Limited, providing first-hand services and growing the business in the region. Omobayo Godwin has been into politics and he was with the Labour Party during the 2023 general elections. He contested for the Federal House of Representatives seat of Akoko-Edo Federal Constituency during the 2023 elections.
