Adamawa State Police Command has arrested a suspected kidnapper identified as Roland Raymond while attempting to collect ransom from a victim’s relations in the state.
The Police command via its X handle disclosed this information on Monday. It revealed that the suspect is a 32-year-old resident of Detti village in Gnaye Local Government Area.
The statement reads, “The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested one Roland Raymond, 32 years, a resident of Detti village, Ganye LGA, for the offense of criminal intimidation associated with kidnapping”.
The arrest was verified to LEADERSHIP on Tuesday by SP Suleiman Nguroje, the spokeswoman for the Adamawa State Police Command.
Nguroje stated that the suspect was taken into custody as a result of a report made by Alhaji Yahya Congo and Abraham Paul, who attested to the fact that the suspect had phoned them over the phone and demanded N600,000 or risk being abducted.
“Upon receipt of the complaints, the police in Ganye Division, in collaboration with hunters, swiftly mobilized and arrested the suspect at the point of collecting the demanded money,” Nguroje said.
The PPRO went on to say that after the investigation is over, the suspect would face charges in court.
However, another news source Naija News noted that the suspected kidnapper was apprehended with the assistance of local hunters in the community. It further noted that this is the second time in the last two months that kidnappers have been captured by security officers while trying to collect a ransom.
