Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has vowed to fight on despite impeachment threats from a faction of the All Progressives Congress (APC). The APC faction, led by Chief Tony Okocha, accused Fubara of disrespecting President Bola Tinubu and failing to implement an eight-point resolution to resolve the crisis.
However, Fubara remains unfazed, urging his supporters to remain calm and peaceful. He warned against any act of lawlessness, emphasizing that his administration prioritizes good governance and the well-being of Rivers State citizens.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has also condemned Okocha’s call for Fubara’s impeachment or resignation, describing it as “hallucination.” The PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, accused the APC faction of attempting to create unnecessary political tension.
Meanwhile, the Rivers State House of Assembly has issued an arrest warrant for the Chairman of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission, Justice Adolphus Enebeli (retd.), and four of his commissioners. The warrant follows their failure to appear before the Assembly despite a 72-hour ultimatum.
In a separate development, a non-governmental organization, Transparent Strategy and Good Leadership, has given Fubara a seven-day ultimatum to institute a lawsuit against the 27 pro-Wike lawmakers for allegedly lying on oath.
The Plateau State chapter of the PDP has also condemned the call for Fubara’s impeachment, describing it as “unfortunate.” They warned that any attempt to impeach the governor would be met with resistance.
The crisis in Rivers State has been ongoing, with the APC faction and the PDP locked in a bitter struggle for control. The situation remains tense, with Fubara’s administration facing significant challenges in the coming days.
